Hi, I'm Kinnon
I didn't start out as an illustrator and graphic designer. In fact, I graduated with a BFA from Ryerson University's Technical Theatre program in 2003 and spent nearly a decade as a freelance stage manager for many Toronto theatre companies. I scheduled the schedules and called the calls. It was fun. Theatre work with various productions took me across the country from St. John's, Newfoundland to Victoria, B.C.
Though I enjoyed working with the amazing companies, casts and production teams, I still felt like I wasn't doing what I was supposed to be doing. So, while still working in theatre, I began taking drawing and design classes at George Brown College, and started out illustrating posters for – you guessed it – independent theatre companies. In 2011 I received an Applied Arts Award and a Communication Arts Award for a poster illustration I did for Ottawa-based Mi Casa Theatre. In 2012, I decided to quit theatre to focus on illustration and graphic design, and now I happily run my own design company. And you know what? It feels great.
I love saturated colours and sharp angles, mid-century modern and minimalism, distressed textures and wine stains. I kind of want to try everything. I live and work and sketch and drink (a lot of) coffee in Toronto's East End. Come say hello!
